Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
306 AM CDT Fri Jun 6 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Hot and humid conditions along with isolated afternoon
  convection will persist through the weekend as the pattern
  remains stagnant

- Heat index values of 105 to 109 across interior areas Saturday
  and Sunday.

- Precipitation chances increase Sunday through mid week as a
  series of upper level disturbances move through the region

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday night)
Issued at 306 AM CDT Fri Jun 6 2025

An upper level ridge is centered over Mexico and stretches up the
Texas coast into Louisiana. A subtropical ridge over the Atlantic
stretches across Florida into the northern gulf coast.

The surface ridge continues to keep the south flow in place which
is pushing in gulf moisture while the upper ridge suppresses
convection. The end result is hot and humid conditions with
minimal pops. Apparent temps today should mostly be below the
threshold of an advisory of 108, but an isolated location or two
may briefly touch it. However, both Saturday and Sunday may be a
degree or two warmer which may necessitate the need for the
issuance of and adv.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Friday)
Issued at 306 AM CDT Fri Jun 6 2025

Late Sunday into Monday an upper trough moves into the upper
Midwest while the aformentioned upper ridge shifts south and
west. Rain chances Monday will increase as the ridge`s influence
is reduced and a frontal boundary moves into the deep south and
stalls. This will also push the afternoon highs back down into
the upper 80s to low 90s with apparent temps below 108.

As troughing develops over the central CONUS, multiple
disturbances will move across the local region keeping rain
chances elevated much of the extended. PWAT values peak out
Tuesday through Thursday at around 2" which is the 90th
percentile. Heavy rain/efficient rainfall producing storms can be
anticipated.

&&

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1125 PM CDT Thu Jun 5 2025

VFR conditions will prevail through the taf period along with
light southerly winds. Radiation fog will be a concern in the
early morning hours with VIS dropping near MVFR conditions. After
sunrise the fog will quickly fade away.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 306 AM CDT Fri Jun 6 2025

A light to modest onshore flow will persist through the period.
Convection will increase next week as a series of upper
disturbances move across the region. Locally higher winds and seas
may occur.
